INTERN TESTIMONIALS
"I interned several summers ago as a college student, and the experience impacted my life so greatly that now I'm back for more! Participating in the food growing process forced me to reevaluate my attitude towards food: I understand more acutely that food does not magically appear in grocery stores. The dirt that collected under my fingernails as I helped plant, weed, and harvest the vegetables reminded me that there are human hands, tangible resources, and much sweat and toil invested in each leafy green. Working at JenEhr instilled within me a respect for the food I eat and showed me that "locally grown" is a term that matters."
"Working on the farm this summer gave me a deeper understanding
and better appreciation for the process of organic farming. You help plant,
weed, irrigate, harvest, wash, pack boxes, and sell tomatoes, potatoes,
radishes, beets, lettuce, cucumbers, broccoli, and many others. Eating
food you have helped grow makes it taste even better. No matter how much
harvesting we had to do that day, Paul and Kay always took time
to answer questions about different varies of radishes, honeybee’s
mating cycles, or how potatoes grow. I learned a huge amount: from how
to harvest rhubarb so it minimizes its own weeds to how to build a rolling
chicken pen that allows for the chickens to have fresh clover each day.
We were there to work, but also to learn; both sides of the experience
were rewarding. The work is hard. You get dirty, hot, and exhausted,
but the feeling of coming together to pack CSA boxes after the day’s
harvest, the warm sun on your back as you weed strawberries, and the laughter
around the lunch table, makes the work incredibly satisfying. The experience
of working on the farm improved my understanding of the reality of organic
farming and was a truly wonderful experience unto itself."
“I want to play a role in our local food production and JenEhr
provides me plenty of hard work, skill building opportunities, deeper
understanding of farm cycles, great food and exciting co-workers.”
